From the zombie-apocalyptic clubber concept of Lovey Dovey to the cutesy cat girls of Bo Beep Bo Beep, it almost seems like there isn’t a concept that girl group T-ara hasn’t done. While the girls seemingly pull off each and every concept with much charisma and charm, it seems like the girls themselves have a few problems with their overtly eccentric, and sometimes outlandish concepts.
On July 25th, the girls made a guest appearance on KBS 2TV’s ‘YeoYooManMan’ spilling their own two cents about their past concepts, as well as the cumbersome worry of the many more strange concepts awaiting them in the near future.
“Despite us being a girl group, we’ve had our share of concepts that were a bit out of the ordinary,” says T-ara, “For performances, we’re never informed of what we’re going to wear on that day beforehand. Our CEO just sends us a box of outfits and that’s pretty much it.”
According to Soyeon, it is not uncommon for the girls to perform wearing outfits that they find to be embarrassing. She then listed a selection of outfits that, to the girls, were the worst from the bunch, from the Christmas-inspired outfits on Christmas specials, to the infamous “school girl” concept of the remix re-release of their 2011 summer hit Roly-Poly.
“To be honest, it’s just so uncomfortable to have to wear some of these outfits and go up on stage,” continues Soyeon, “One time, we were so embarrassed that we couldn’t dare go out to go use the washroom.”
“Boram and I are 27 years old now,” says Qri, “I want to do a more girl group-appropriate concept before we get too old.”
“T-ara’s concepts are really unique, they’re one of the many reasons I look forward to their performances,” comments one netizen, “But sometimes, it does seem a little bit out of hand.”
