Long episodic dramas become an avenue for celebrity couples to form?

On the September 5th episode of SBS ‘Night TV Entertainment’, a segment was dedicated in reporting couples who met on the filming set and subsequently fall in love outside of it.

There have been many of such cases especially this year with couples in dramas subsequently beginning a relationship outside of filming. Examples of such cases include Kim JooHyuk and Kim GyuRi, In Kyo Jin and Seo Woo, Choi Jin Hyuk and Son EunSeo, Lee Chun Hee and Jun Hye Jin, Jin Tae Hyun and Park Shi Eun, etc.

One common denominator was that they had all starred in long episodic dramas with a family theme. Such dramas usually have a minimum filming period of 6 months, and it is thus natural that they develop feelings for each other over the course of filming.

SBS TV drama ‘Smile, You’ which was the shortest episodic drama with 45 episodes, saw on-screen couple Lee Chun Hee and Jun Hye Jin eventually getting married in real life.

Of course, it’s not just limited to couples. Most senior and junior actors also bond together during the long course of filming and become close just like real family members.
